Bridget Jones’ underpants to be auctioned for charity

London – The famously large underpants worn by film character Bridget Jones are to be auctioned off to raise cash for some of London’s most famous green spaces.

The large, white underwear was worn by Renee Zellweger in her role in “Bridget Jones’s Diary” and prompted the comment “Hello, mummy!” from Hugh Grant, who played her suitor, Daniel Cleaver.

The underwear, signed by Grant, will be auctioned off at a charity dinner for Britain’s Royal Parks Foundation, it was announced Friday.

Organizers hope the dinner will raise $185,000 for the Royal Parks, which provided the setting for scenes in the second film in the series, “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.”

Chan wants to be known as more than an action star

Venice, Italy – Jackie Chan has seen enough action.

The Hong Kong star told Press Assn. in Venice that he wants to be more than a martial arts master – and is ready for another challenge.

“I’ve been willing to change my roles for quite some time. I’m fed up with these roles,” the 52-year-old actor was quoted as saying. “We all know that the life of an action movie actor is quite a short career. I already consider myself a myth for still being around today.”

“I want to put myself to the test by interpreting and acting different characters,” he said. “I would like people in (the) future to see my movies and consider me an actor who can act in action movies, not just someone who knows about martial arts and happens to be an actor.”

“When people come up to me in the street in America they say ‘Ah, Jackie Chan!’ and do all the action moves,” he said. “No one does that to Robert De Niro.”

Estranged husband of Minelli wants to stop prenup

New York – David Gest, the estranged husband of Liza Minnelli, wants a judge to set aside his prenuptial agreement with the star, the latest development in their lengthy divorce battle.

Gest’s attorneys told State Supreme Court Judge Harold B. Beeler on Friday that Minnelli hid the fact that she had herpes, was an alcoholic and prone to violence. Had Gest known, the attorneys argued, he never would have entered into the prenuptial agreement.

Minnelli’s attorney, Israel Rubin, refused to comment on specific allegations. “This whole thing is ridiculous,” he said.

Claudia Schiffer’s dogs allegedly intimidating walkers

London – Police plan to meet with Claudia Schiffer to discuss complaints that her dogs are intimidating walkers near her country mansion.

Police said Friday they hope the talks will resolve problems around the supermodel’s home near Bury St. Edmunds, a rural town northeast of London.

Locals have complained about Schiffer’s dogs “running wild,” said a spokeswoman for police in the county of Suffolk.

“A public footpath runs alongside the grounds, where locals walk dogs. We first received a complaint in December that one of the dogs had bitten another dog,” said the spokeswoman.

“More recently, a local parish council has received a number of complaints to say that dogs are still ‘running wild.”‘

Schiffer, 36, lives in Coldham Hall, a 16th-century mansion, with her husband, film producer Matthew Vaughn. She is believed to own an Irish wolfhound and a German shepherd.
