Law enforcement report

¢ A man led Lawrence Police on a foot chase Sunday night in the woods near Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive.

The chase began around 7 p.m. when the suspect fled during a traffic stop at Sixth Street and Wakarusa Drive. The man then ran across Sixth Street into a tree line near the high school, Police Capt. Ray Urbanek said.

The car he was driving was stolen, police said.

Police and Douglas County sheriff’s deputies searched for the man until about 9 p.m., Urbanek said, using one of the county’s police dogs. Police didn’t find the suspect, described as a black male wearing a gray sweatshirt and jeans.

¢ A man stole a woman’s purse from her Sunday in the parking lot of Dillons, 1015 W. 23rd St., police said.

The man, described as a white male, stole the purse, then dropped it nearby and fled. Police couldn’t locate the suspect.

The woman’s purse was returned to her.

Injury accidents

¢ A Topeka man was taken to the hospital Sunday after a two-vehicle wreck north of Perry in Jefferson County.

The accident happened at 4:15 p.m. when Joseph Stinchcomb, 41, Topeka, crossed the center line near 66th Street and Ferguson Road and hit another car, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

Stinchcomb was taken to St. Francis Health Center in Topeka with undisclosed injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, Barry Hiser, 43, Ozawkie, was treated at the scene.
