KU’s wind ensemble announces performance

Kansas University’s Department of Music and Dance and the School of Fine Arts present a performance by the Wind Ensemble Nov. 5 at the Lied Center of Kansas.

This special concert is called the “neXt festival.” It features the works of four talented contemporary Generation X composers, who will participate in a roundtable discussion before the concert.

This is the first event of its kind, bringing to Lawrence and KU four of the rising stars in composition from across the country: John Mackey, Los Angeles; Jonathan Newman, New York City; Carter Pann, Boulder, Colo.; and Joel Puckett, Baltimore, Md.

The Wind Ensemble will perform a recent work by each of the guest composers and “In Evening’s Stillness,” by the accomplished 20th century composer Joseph Schwantner.

The pre-concert roundtable discussion with the composers begins at 6:45 p.m. at the Lied Center. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for this concert are $7 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens and students. To order tickets, call the Lied Center Box Office at 864-ARTS (2787).
