Gun shots fired in Lecompton
Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls of gunshots being fired in Lecompton this afternoon – gunshots that may have triggered a car chase and wreck.
A caller phoned emergency dispatchers at 12:39 p.m. today reporting the gunshots. Around that time, two vehicles collided at the intersection of 3rd and Isacks streets in Lecompton.
Neighbors in the area said they heard the collision and later heard that the two cars had been chasing each other. From what other neighbors said and after being questioned by authorities, the gunshots, fired elsewhere, were apparently related.
Neighbors said one car left the scene of the wreck.
Lt. Kari Wempe, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office, said she did not know much about the incident except that it began with a trespassing call. Wempe also said there were several addresses involved.
