Warming up to the 50s

Morning gusts send windchills into the 20s

You might want to grab a coat on the way out this morning, says Sara Jones, 6News meteorologist.

“The only weather element you’re going to have to battle today is cooler weather,” Jones said. “It’s very chilly.”

But it will warm up later, as the temperature climbs to a high of 58 today, Jones said.

At 8 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 33 degrees, the humidity was 89 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 5 mph, making the windchill 29 degrees.

The average low temperature for this date is 47 degrees. The record low was 23 degrees, set in 1972.

The average high temperature for this date is 69 degrees. The record high was 86 degrees, set in 1963.

The temperature will fall to 37 degrees by early Friday morning. Friday is expected to be partly cloudy, with the high reaching 69 degrees.

Temperatures will fall Friday night to a low of 47 degrees by early Saturday morning. There’s a chance for showers on Saturday, with the high expected to reach 57 degrees by Saturday afternoon, Jones said.
