KU associate professor to give viola recital

Chung-Hoon Peter Chun, Kansas University associate professor of viola, will perform in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Swarthout Recital Hall. “Katie” Kyungmi Lee will accompany on the piano.

This viola recital pays homage to the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich to mark the centennial of his birth with a performance of his “Viola Sonata.” Paradoxically, the work was written during the year of his death, 1975.

The recital also features “Pastoral” by the American composer Elliott Carter, a youthful work by a venerated composer currently in his 90s; as well as “Morpheus” and “Passacaglia on an Old English Tune,” two works by English-American composer Rebecca Clarke, and “Sonata for Viola da Gamba” in G minor by Johann Sebastian Bach.
