Keeping it cool

Warmup coming for weekend

Cloudy skies will keep Lawrence relatively cool today – and a little gloomy.

“I don’t think we’ll see any sunshine until the clouds start to break up around 1 or 2 o’clock today,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Temperatures will remain in the 50s and 60s throughout the day, Schack said.

“We’re heading up to 69 for a high,” she said. The average high temperature for this date is 75 degrees. The record high was 96 degrees, set in 1963.

Winds will be from the northeast at 8 to 12 mph.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 59 degrees, the humidity was 72 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 5 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 54 degrees. The record low was 32 degrees, set in 1964.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 48 degrees by early Friday morning, Schack said. Friday’s high will reach 78 degrees with mostly sunny skies, she said.

Temperatures will start out Saturday at 53 degrees, warming up to a high of 86 degrees by Saturday afternoon. Skies will be mostly sunny, Schack said.

There’s just a slight chance for scattered storms in the region on late Sunday night, she said.
