Rapper The Game arrested after impersonating police

New York – Police think The Game should stick to rap, not law enforcement.

The rapper was arrested this week after telling a cab driver that he was an undercover police officer and persuading the driver to run a series of red lights, police said Saturday.

The 26-year-old, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, allegedly picked up a cab Thursday night shortly after he appeared on “Late Show with David Letterman.” The cabbie drove about 13 blocks before he was pulled over, police said.

Taylor faces a charge of impersonating a police officer, said police Sgt. Kevin Hayes.

His attorney, Jeffrey Lichtman, denied the accusation Saturday, saying police had been tailing his client throughout his stay in New York and that the cabbie was a terrible driver.

“This is really a new low even for the NYPD,” Lichtman said. “It’s a big joke to harass him and other members of the hip-hop community, and ultimately arresting him. Let’s see how funny they think it is during the cross-examinations of this trial.”

The rapper was told to appear in court on Dec. 12, Lichtman said.

A call seeking comment from the Manhattan district attorney’s office was not immediately returned Saturday.

Costner requests eight acres for housing development

Deadwood, S.D. – Actor Kevin Costner has asked the city of Deadwood to annex eight acres so he can build a housing development.

The project lies on 160 acres along Highway 14A, and preliminary plans call for 88 single family houses and 72 town house units. The homes will be middle- to higher-end and the owners will have to abide by covenants, said Costner’s attorney, Mike Reynolds, of Rapid City.

City managers said the city’s water and sewer infrastructure would support the new subdivision. A tax district would help pay for some of the added costs.

“It’s a very big deal, it really is,” said Deadwood City Planner Bernie Williams.

Costner can also apply for commercial and gambling permits on the land, if he chooses.

The project is not part of Costner’s Dunbar resort previously planned in Deadwood.

A decision on annexing the land will come at a public hearing scheduled for Nov. 27.
