Teen to be tried as adult in slaying

? A teenager accused in July’s fatal stabbing of a federal prosecutor’s wife will be tried as an adult.

Edward George, who turns 17 next month, was certified to stand trial as an adult Thursday by Jackson County Circuit Judge Ann Mesle, who signed an order transferring the case against George to adult court.

George now faces one count each of first-degree murder, first-degree assault and stealing a motor vehicle, and two counts of armed criminal action.

The charges stem from the stabbing death of Pamela Marquez and the wounding of her husband, Assistant U.S. Atty. Joe Marquez. The couple were attacked at their Grain Valley home.

Their son, Taylor Marquez, 16, also is charged in the attack. He remains in juvenile custody on first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges and is awaiting a Jan. 17 hearing on whether he also will be tried as an adult.

The motive for the attack is not clear.

Pamela Marquez died as a result of numerous knife wounds, while Joe Marquez suffered cuts to his throat and below his lip, according to a probable cause statement released Thursday.

After the attack, police say, Taylor Marquez and George fled in Joe Marquez’s car.

The teens were arrested near a truck stop in Wheat Ridge, Colo., a few days after the killing.
