Law enforcement report

¢ The cause of a fire Wednesday night at a vacant trailer at 1908 E. 19th St. was still under investigation Thursday, said Rob Kort, division chief for Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical. Firefighters were called to the trailer about 10 p.m. by neighbors who reported seeing the trailer fully engulfed in flames. Neighbors said no one had lived there for the past year, and the gas service had been shut off.

Injury accidents

¢ A Baldwin teenager was injured Thursday morning in an accident on U.S. Highway 56 almost 2 miles west of the Baldwin Junction when she lost control of her vehicle, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

Erin Lurken, 16, was eastbound in a 1998 Mazda car when the vehicle swerved onto the south shoulder at 6:45 a.m. She tried to steer the car back and overcorrected. The vehicle then went into the south ditch, where it rolled over. Lurken, who wore a seat belt, was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and later released.
