Museum offers program on preserving photos

Watkins Community Museum of History will present a program Saturday on how to preserve family photographs.

Presented by museum studies graduate student Carol Gregory, this program explores common photographic storage practices, why they may be harmful to photographs and better practices for the future. Using photographs from the Watkins collection, participants will have a chance to identify and discuss signs of photographic deterioration and what conditions may have caused them.

Participants may bring one personal photograph, no larger than 8-by-10 inches, to be housed in an archival enclosure provided by the instructor.

The program begins at 11 a.m. at the museum, 1047 Mass. Registration is required and limited to 10 participants. Call 841-4109 for more information.
