Fire hits Gatorland, kills pythons, crocodile

? Two 8-foot long pythons and a 5-foot crocodile have died after fire struck the popular Gatorland park early Monday.

One of Florida’s oldest tourist attractions, Gatorland gift shop, entrance and ticket booth were badly damaged. The giant concrete gator head at the main entrance was charred, its white teeth blackened with soot, its mouth full of debris.

Gatorland spokeswoman Michelle Harris said another 5-foot crocodile managed to survive by dipping into a pond.

The cause of the fire was under investigation. Park representatives said they would try to reopen as soon as possible, but it was unclear how quick that may be.

The 110-acre park opened in 1949 and attracts about 400,000 tourists each year.
