Officers chase wanted man through rural area
Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies chased a wanted man through a rural area just north of Lawrence on Tuesday night.
The chase began after a 911 call about a domestic incident. The individual, who had several warrants, fled the scene near the 1700 block of N. 1500 Road, Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Kari Wempe said.
Wempe said she wasn’t sure why the suspect was wanted.
The Sheriff’s Office, along with the Lawrence Police Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol, searched for the man near the Airport Motel using a helicopter from the Topeka Police Department and a sheriff’s K-9 unit.
The suspect wasn’t located, Wempe said. However, the suspect was identified, and Wempe said the office would turn over reports to the District Attorney’s office for possible prosecution. The suspect’s name was not released.
