Military historian to visit Oread Books

Max Boot, senior fellow in National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, will visit Oread Books in Kansas University’s Kansas Union. Boot is the author of the just-released book “War Made New: Technology, Warfare, and the Course of History, 1500 to Today.”

The event, from 4:30 p.m.

to 6 p.m. Friday, will include a reading, discussion and book signing, and is free and open to the public.

Boot, a military historian and strategist, was hired away from The Wall Street Journal in 2002 by the Council on Foreign Relations following publication of his widely acclaimed, award-winning book “The Savage Wars of Peace: Small Wars and the Rise of American Power.”

He also is a weekly foreign-affairs columnist for the Los Angeles Times, a contributing editor to the Weekly Standard, and a regular contributor to many national publications.
