Suspect in ambush of deputy is caught

? One of two brothers accused of killing a sheriff’s deputy and friend was captured Friday after a day on the run.

Roane County Sheriff’s Capt. Fay Hall confirmed that Leon Houston, 47, was in custody but could not give more details of how he was apprehended.

The FBI, state and local agencies were using SWAT teams and helicopters as they searched the area where the shooting occurred Thursday. Officials thought Houston would try to seek shelter and aid from friends and family in rural Roane County, about 35 miles southwest of Knoxville.

Houston and his brother were accused of shooting Deputy Bill Jones and his friend, Mike Brown, as they pulled up to Houston’s home to serve felony warrants on the two brothers, the agency said. It was not clear what the warrants were for.

Jennifer Johnson, spokeswoman with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, said the patrol cruiser “was just shot to pieces with a high-powered rifle.” The deputy returned fire, but Brown wasn’t armed.
