Grand jury indicts 20 in drug investigation

? A federal grand jury has indicted 20 people in one of the largest drug investigations in Kansas, Atty. Gen. Phill Kline said Monday.

Cody J. Glidden, Ryan Joseph Huninghake and Tera Beth Weisbender already pleaded guilty to interstate trafficking of cocaine, and Jeffrey Alan Pollit and Cyril Vernon Grindle have pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

All five will be sentenced later this year.

The other 15 have been indicted on charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

“Those who profit or attempt to profit from the misery of others are harmful to our society and should face severe consequences for their actions,” Kline said in a news release.

“Operation Little Apple” concentrated federal, state and local law enforcement efforts in and around Riley County on April 14, Kline said. Officers executed warrants at 23 locations and seized cash, drugs, weapons, vehicles and other property.

“Because this investigation uncovered a drug trafficking operation that crossed state lines – from Kansas to Texas and Colorado – federal prosecution provided the best tools for managing the cases,” said U.S. Atty. Eric Melgren.

“Exceptional teamwork between federal, state and local authorities is the main ingredient that has made Operation Little Apple such a success.”
