Topeka ? A man was found dead in his home Sunday after a kitchen fire that had burned itself out, authorities said.

The victim was Walter Carson, 34. A cousin who also lives in the home was gone overnight and discovered the body when she returned Sunday afternoon.

Topeka Police Lt. Jerry Stanley said investigators determined a fire that began in the kitchen spread smoke throughout the residence before going out on its own. He said he didn’t know when Carson was last seen alive and that there were no signs of foul play.
