A Lawrence Journal-World article about the city’s noise ordinance received national publicity Sunday when it was featured on the popular Internet news site Drudge Report.
The article, by staff writer Chad Lawhorn, described the conflict between the city and the Kansas University branch of the American Civil Liberties Union regarding noise ordinance penalties. Noise ordinance violations have increased here, according to a city prosecutor. Those violations have led to some stiff penalties, including time in jail and $300 fines for first offenders.
The March 11 article was displayed on Drudge Report along with a more recent article about a Lincoln, Neb., man sentenced to 30 days in jail because of a noise ordinance violation there.
