Wind ensemble plans Hispanic-themed show

Kansas University’s Wind Ensemble, conducted by director of bands John P. Lynch, will perform festive music influenced by Hispanic culture at a performance Tuesday.

The concert, titled “South of the Border,” opens with Aaron Copland’s “El Salon Mexico” and moves into Stravinsky’s masterwork, “Concerto for Piano and Wind Instruments,” featuring guest artist James D. Cockman III on piano. The performance continues with “Amparita Roca” by Jamie Texidor and “Sleep” by Eric Whitacre. The ensemble concludes the concert with a performance of “Fandangos” by Roberto Sierra, the notable composer.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center. Call 864-2787 for tickets, which are $7 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens and students.
