Police officer suspended after sex charges filed

? A part-time Sedgwick police officer arrested on charges of taking indecent liberties with a child has been suspended and will be fired if found guilty, the police chief said.

Anthony Peluso, 28, has been charged with seven felonies, including aggravated criminal sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties. He remains jailed in Sedgwick County on a $100,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is Wednesday.

Peluso is accused of molesting a girl on at least three occasions – the first time when she was 13 – between December 2003 and January, according to court records.

Peluso worked as a city of Sedgwick police officer for two or three months before his arrest, Sedgwick Police Chief Ray Huff said. He was one of the city’s six part-time officers.

He also worked previously for two years in Valley Center before resigning in September 2001 over scheduling conflicts, Valley Center Police Chief Kelly Parks said.
