SMITHVILLE, MO. ? A man drowned late Wednesday afternoon while swimming in Smithville Lake with three co-workers.

The name of the 26-year-old victim, who was from France, was not released because officials had not yet been able to contact his relatives, said Kimberly Davis of the Missouri State Water Patrol. She said he had been in the Kansas City area working as an intern at a hotel.

Davis said he and three women who worked with him had gone to the southwestern cove of the lake in suburban Kansas City.

Davis said the body was recovered from 15 to 20 feet of water.
