Networks offer marital blitz

At a time when so many people think the institution of marriage is in peril, the wedding industry has never been more robust. According to an HGTV executive, couples spent $125 billion in 2005 to say “I Do.”

“Wedding: Design on a Dime” (9 p.m., today, HGTV) host Kristan Cunningham says that the average wedding costs more than $30,000. So this budget-minded program shows how to plan a stylish nuptial – including decor, flowers and food – on a mere $8,000 budget. The couple opts to have the ceremony in their backyard, and Cunningham enlists Food Network personality Dave Lieberman to advise on the food budget.

This weekend’s other wedding-themed programming includes “Wedding Altered 3” (9 p.m., today, Style). On this stunt, the bride gives her groom complete control over their big day – even the choice of dress. It’s too bad he’s got a Halloween fixation and has his heart set on a trick-or-treat theme. He’s got $10,000 to work with. Let’s just hope he doesn’t blow it on candy corn.

“Style Star” (9 p.m., Sunday, Style) discusses the celebrity weddings, including those of Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani and Vera Wang, that have inspired trends.

Finally, the third-season premiere of “Bridezillas” (9 p.m., Sunday, WE) presents footage of women turning their march to holy matrimony into unholy terror.
