Bethesda, Md. ? Kimberly Dozier has improved enough to travel home.

The CBS News correspondent, critically wounded by a car bomb in Iraq last week, began her trip from Berlin back to the United States on Wednesday.

Dozier’s not out of the dark just yet. After suffering head and lower body injuries in the explosion that killed her camera crew, her family said she will need rods in her legs.

On her arrival back in the U.S., Dozier was expected to be brought to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda.
