Law enforcement report

¢ A Lawrence woman told police an unknown person had placed a dead cat on the hood of her truck and two dead cats in her pool late Monday or early Tuesday at her home in the 1500 block of Barker Avenue.

¢ Lawrence police arrested a 29-year-old Tonganoxie man Thursday evening as a follow-up to a reported domestic incident Sunday evening, said Sgt. Susan Hadl. A witness told police that in the 1600 block of Haskell Avenue the man had threatened to strike a female victim with a hammer he had in his hand, Hadl said.

There also was a pulling match between the two while the man held a 9-month-old child, Hadl said. The man was arrested without incident, and he remained Thursday night in the Douglas County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, domestic battery, interfering with parental custody and endangering a child, according to jail records.

¢ A Boys and Girls Club bus rolled into a building Thursday afternoon during a field trip from Cordley School to CiCi’s Pizza, according to a report from the Lawrence school district. No children were on the bus at the time, and no injuries were involved as the parking brake was either not properly set or failed, according to the report.

¢ Administrators at Woodlawn School, 508 Elm St., filed a police report this week after an undetermined amount of cash was taken from a staff member’s desk drawer. A bullhorn also was stolen, according to a report from the Lawrence school district.

Injury accidents

¢ A 20-year-old Kingman woman was taken Thursday afternoon to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after she crashed her Jeep into a bridge on Interstate 70 about six miles east of Lawrence during heavy rain, according to a report with the Kansas Turnpike Authority.

The woman, Jessica Phillips, wore her seat belt and complained of neck pain. Minutes later, at 4:11 p.m., another eastbound vehicle struck a separate vehicle as the driver, Jason Blenden, 32, Topeka, had tried to avoid traffic backed up on the bridge because of the earlier accident.

Blenden and the driver of the second vehicle were not injured, according to a KTA report.

¢ Three children from Centerton, Ark., were taken Thursday afternoon to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., after the vehicle they were riding in was struck on Kansas Highway 7 in Bonner Springs.

According to a report with the Kansas Highway Patrol, Matthew Hopkins, 17, Linwood, entered southbound K-7 from Kansas Highway 32, and he lost control of his vehicle at 4:15 p.m. because of water on the road. He hit the side of a vehicle driven by Edison Williams Sr., 40, of Centerton, Ark.

The two drivers were not injured, but Williams children Edison Jr., 3, Aleynah, 9, and Rayannah, 7, were all taken to the hospital with possible injuries, according to the report.
