Senator seeks review of Bush security policy

? The Supreme Court’s decision to toss out a key Bush administration anti-terror program is a sign the president’s entire national security effort is shaky and in need of major renovation, Sen. Charles Schumer said Sunday.

The high court found last week that the president’s tribunals for terrorists held in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, were unconstitutional, saying the White House went too far on its own and acted without authority from Congress.

In a letter to Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales, Schumer, D-N.Y., called for a panel to do a “top-to-bottom legal review” of all the White House’s controversial terror efforts.

Politicians on both sides of the aisle said Sunday that Congress likely would act quickly to give President Bush whatever power he needs to pass muster with the high court.
