Inmate guilty in slaying of pedophile priest

? Joseph Druce’s conviction Wednesday for murdering pedophile priest John Geoghan effectively added nothing to the life sentence he was already serving.

His insanity claims rejected, Druce looked up at the jurors and said quietly, “It’s all right. Good job.”

The jury of five women and seven men deliberated for about seven hours over two days before reaching the guilty verdict early Wednesday afternoon.

Druce admitted sneaking into Geoghan’s prison cell on Aug. 23, 2003, and beating and strangling the 68-year-old Geoghan.

The defense argued that Druce was mentally ill and under the delusion that God had chosen him to kill Geoghan, a figure in the clergy sex abuse scandal.

Druce was already serving a life sentence after being convicted in 1989 in the murder of a man who picked him up hitchhiking.
