Bacon brother transformed on ‘Queer Eye’

What do you get when you combine the Fab 5 with a man best known for Six Degrees? If you guessed “Ocean’s Eleven” you’d be wrong. It’s Kevin Bacon on “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” (9 p.m., Bravo). The “Footloose” star arrives with his brother and bandmate, Michael. It seems the Bacon brother needs a makeover in advance of a benefit concert for a charity run by their sister, Hilda Bacon, who works for a nonprofit organization providing comprehensive services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Isn’t it nice of Kevin to share the limelight with the family? He’s not heavy – he’s my Bacon!

¢ Punk rock fans and TV historians should pounce on the new DVD release “The Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder: Punk Rock & New Wave.” Released today by the folks at Shout Factory, this set includes interviews and performances by Iggy Pop, Elvis Costello, The Ramones, Patti Smith, The Plasmatics and Joan Jett.

For the uninitiated, “The Tomorrow Show” ran between 1973 and 1982 and aired in the 11:30 p.m. slot after Johnny Carson. Snyder would finally be canceled to make way for a fresh-faced Hoosier named David Letterman. An edgy, cerebral chain smoker, Snyder is unlike anyone on contemporary television. Last year he was diagnosed with leukemia. I wish him all the best.

This collection includes the rather infamous interview/argument with John Lydon (formerly known as Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols) as he announces the formation of his new band, PiL. It’s fun to see Jett as a cherubic teen. Smith is shy and nervous but remarkably talkative, and spends much of her time discussing both Carson and God.
