Piano student wins competition

Nicholas Susi, a freshman piano major studying with professor Jack Winerock, was declared the winner of the piano division in the Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City Concerto Competition Concert.

The competition took place Dec. 10 at the Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the campus of Park University in Parkville, Mo.

Susi won the competition with a performance of the “Totentanz” by Franz Liszt and was awarded $500. As part of his award, Susi also was invited to perform the Liszt composition with the Philharmonia of Greater Kansas City under the baton of Andres Franco, a KU student who is pursuing a DMA in orchestral conducting.

Susi’s performance will take place Feb. 12 at Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel at Park University.
