Harvard Shakespeare scholar to visit KU

Marjorie Garber, William R. Kenan Jr. professor of English at Harvard University, will deliver the 2006 Richard Gunn Memorial Lecture, a free event open to the public.

“Bartlett’s Familiar Shakespeare: The Pleasures and Pitfalls of Quotation” will be given at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Kansas Room of the Kansas Union.

Garber is the author of “Coming of Age in Shakespeare,” “Shakespeare’s Ghost Writers” and other books. She is chairwoman of Harvard’s Department of Visual and Environmental Studies and directs Harvard’s Humanities Center. She serves nationally as president of the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes.

The Gunn lecture series was established with a bequest from Dr. Richard Gunn, who practiced medicine for many years in Kansas City, Kan.
