A 49-year-old Wichita woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Ninth and Missouri streets.

At 12:44 p.m., Barbara Smith, 20, Leawood, failed to yield her vehicle and entered the intersection after she had stopped, said Kim Murphree, a Lawrence Police Department spokeswoman.

Smith’s car then struck an eastbound vehicle, driven by Rhnae Steddum. The collision caused Steddum’s car to go between a fire hydrant and a utility pole, Murphree said.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical workers transported Steddum to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Steddum was treated and later released, an LMH nursing supervisor said.

An official accident report, which would list possible tickets given, was unavailable Thursday, Murphree said.
