Lawrence High School wins Scholars’ Bowl
Lawrence High School won the 6A state championship, and Free State High School won fourth place at the Kansas Scholars’ Bowl on Saturday, an annual test of academic knowledge for high school students.
Lawrence High team members were Jordan Crice, senior; Matthias Heilke, junior; Buddy Jeans, senior; Daniel Zehr, senior; Bao Qing Zhow, junior.
Free State team members were Benjy Greenberg, junior; Isaac James, senior; Molly Krishtalka, senior; Tiffany Kwak, senior; Jing Li, junior.
Lawrence High School edged out Wichita East High School for the championship, while Leavenworth High School narrowly defeated Free State for third place.
The round-robin championship round of the tournament featured eight teams. Regional qualifiers had been held throughout the year.
The 6A level of the event was at Wichita North High School.
LHS also won the event in 2000 and 2002.
