City has no unsolved homicides on record

It’s a streak that’s jeopardized every time there’s a homicide in the city limits: The Lawrence Police Department has no unsolved murders.

“Other than the homicide we’re working on now, we have no open homicide cases at the Lawrence Police Department,” said Kim Murphree, a department spokeswoman.

Police are nearing the end of their second full week investigating a Feb. 5 shooting outside the Granada, 1020 Mass., that killed Robert E. Williams and injured another man.

Police have said they expected the investigation to take them to other states, including Colorado, and that eyewitnesses initially weren’t coming forward with information.

Police are not discussing any details of their ongoing investigation.

Although there are no open homicide cases in the city, there are a handful of unsolved cases outside the city limits – most recently the April 2005 death of Clarence David Boose, 77, a retired jeweler found dead in his home on North 2190 Road near Lecompton.
