Police: George Michael unfit to drive

London – Singer George Michael has been charged with being unfit to drive after he was found passed out inside his car in October, police said Saturday.

Police arrested Michael on Oct. 2 after responding to complaints that a car was blocking an intersection in north London. He received a caution for possession of marijuana and was released on bail on a charge of being unfit to drive.

The singer will appear before a court on Jan. 11, Metropolitan Police said. They did not say why the decision to file charges took more than two months.

Michael first rose to fame in the 1980s as half of the duo Wham! before starting his solo career.

Police had earlier warned Michael for possession of marijuana in February.

In April, he hit three parked cars. He later acknowledged in an interview that he was a “terrible driver” and said he was trying to maneuver out of a parking spot.

Bodyguard accused in drunken Hindu temple desecration

New Delhi – Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai is in trouble again.

One of Rai’s bodyguards is accused of desecrating a temple in the Hindu holy town of Pushkar by entering drunk and roughing up worshippers who tried to approach the actress, media reports said Friday.

“We are contemplating action against the star as she is responsible for her guards,” Ladoo Ram, the head of the local priests association told the Hindustan Times newspaper. Ram said the priests would discuss filing charges with the police.

Alcohol and meat are banned from Pushkar, a Hindu pilgrimage center surrounding a small lake in the desert of Rajasthan state in northwest India and home to the only temple to the Hindu god Brahma.

Rai denied her guard was drunk, the paper reported. The Times of India quoted police as saying that Rai’s guards were only trying to keep a crush of fans and reporters away from her.

Officials in Pushkar could not immediately be reached for comment Friday.
