Police say nightclub fire in K.C. is not related to fatal shootings

? A Kansas City nightclub caught fire early Wednesday morning, causing at least $100,000 in damage, just days after a shooting there left two people dead and six others wounded, authorities said.

Kansas City fire officials do not suspect a connection between the holiday weekend homicides and the fire that broke out just before 3 a.m. Wednesday at the 6902 Club.

Fire Battalion Chief Joe Vitale said the cause of the fire, which started in the ceiling, was electrical. He said the blazed caused $75,000 damage to the building and $25,000 damage to the contents of the nightclub.

Meanwhile, police said Wednesday they believe the shooting last week followed an argument between a man and woman at the club.

Kansas City police spokesman Tony Sanders said an unidentified man drove to the front of the 6902 Club Friday night and began firing a gun, wounding eight people. Two of those people – Marlon Gunnels, 35, and Louis L. Page, 67, both of Kansas City – died in the days following the drive-by shooting, Sanders said.

Police have not made any arrests in the case, and Sanders said police are disappointed that none of the people who were at the nightclub the night of the shooting have contacted them with information.

Sanders said owners and workers at the club have cooperated with detectives.
