Police kill kidnapping suspect after standoff

? A man who authorities said kidnapped two people at gunpoint was shot and killed by Corona, Calif., police after an hourlong standoff on Interstate 15.

The alleged kidnapper, authorities said, forced a man and woman from a home outside Corona to the Bank of America in the 1300 block of E. Ontario Ave., which is within the city. Corona is about 50 miles east of Los Angeles.

About 10:30 a.m., while the woman was withdrawing money at the bank, she told an employee that she and her husband had been taken hostage and that their kidnapper was holding him at gunpoint outside, authorities said. The bank employee called police.

Corona officers trailed a 2002 blue Chevy Blazer with the alleged kidnapper and hostages inside from the bank to southbound Interstate 15 north of El Cerrito Road. There, police pulled over the Blazer. Police were unable to provide many details about what ensued, other than to say they began negotiations shortly after 11 a.m. Interstate 15 was shut down in both directions, according to the California Highway Patrol Web site.

Just before 12:20 p.m., a Corona police officer shot and killed the alleged kidnapper.

Authorities did not release details about the alleged kidnapper or the alleged victims.
