Man convicted in fatal shooting is executed
Tyler, Texas ? A man convicted of robbing and fatally shooting a man nine years ago in Tyler was executed Thursday.
Justin Fuller briefly thanked family and friends for their support before he was given the lethal injection. As the drugs took effect, he looked at his parents watching through a window a few feet away and said, “I love you.”
He did not acknowledge the parents and a sister of his victim, who watched through an adjacent window.
“He showed no remorse in court, and he showed no remorse being injected,” said Donald Whittington Jr., whose son was murdered.
Fuller acknowledged being in the vicinity of Lake Tyler in east Texas when 21-year-old Donald Whittington III was slain early on April 21, 1997, but said he didn’t fire the fatal shots.
His three companions, who are serving long prison terms, said he pulled the trigger.
Fuller was the 19th inmate executed this year in Texas, the nation’s busiest death-penalty state. The total matches the number of executions in Texas for all of 2005.
