Classical band to play Merrie Melodies tunes
Fireworks, hailed as the “hottest new classical band in New York,” will perform “Cartoon” next month at the Lied Center.
The ensemble’s members – Jennifer Grim (flute), Michael Ibrahim (saxophone), Oren Fader (guitar), Jennifer Choi (violin), Leigh Stuart (cello), James Johnston (keyboards), Brian Coughlin (bass) and Eric Poland (percussion) – will perform classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies created by the musical masters Raymond Scott and Carl Stalling. Part of their performance will accompany three video vignettes of classic animation and also will include recent music from composers such as Brian Coughlin, John Zorn and Robert Paterson, among others.
The performance will be at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30.
