Police today released the name of a person struck and killed by a Union Pacific train on Saturday. It was Jeannie Marie Newmoon, age 53. Police declined to release additional details, pending autopsy results. Police were alerted about 1:15 p.m. on Saturday and found Newmoon’s body to the west of the overpass above North Second Street in North Lawrence. A railroad spokesman said at the time that Newmoon apparently had tried to remove something from the tracks and was struck by the 129-car train that was headed from North Platte, Neb. to Kansas.
