Catalog system update closes library for a day
The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Monday while staff members work to install a new online catalog system.
The library, 707 Vt., will reopen at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The $160,000 upgrade replaces a system that has been in place for 10 years. Library director Bruce Flanders said some of the advantages of the new system include:
¢ A more thorough description of a book’s location in the library.
¢ The ability to limit searches to available items, meaning that checked-out items will not appear.
¢ Search results that can be sorted by year of publication.
¢ Selected books with portions of the contents posted online so readers can “look inside” to determine if it meets their needs.
¢ An option to subscribe to receive an e-mail three days before a book is due back to the library.
