KU football squad starts practice today

Kansas University football players reported back to Lawrence on Thursday before preseason camp opens up today.

The team’s first practice, scheduled for this morning, is closed to the public. However, Saturday morning’s practice, scheduled for 8:40 a.m., is open for anyone to attend. The team will work out on the practice field adjacent to Hoglund Ballpark.

A second practice, on Aug. 18 at 3:40 p.m., also is open to the public. The annual fan appreciation day, where KU will scrimmage and sign autographs afterward, is scheduled for Aug. 23 at Memorial Stadium.

The Jayhawks will have about a month to prepare for the first game of the season, a Sept. 2 contest against Northwestern State, a NCAA Division I-AA school out of Louisiana. Kickoff for that game is at 6 p.m. from Memorial Stadium.
