Hearing set for student charged with rape

A Haskell Indian Nations University student charged with raping an acquaintance earlier this month has had a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 19.

The 35-year-old student unsuccessfully sought Tuesday to have his bond reduced from $60,000 to $25,000. His attorney, Angela Keck, said her client was a model student and that there were “a lot of inconsistencies with the complaining witness’ statement.”

Prosecutors opposed the request for a bond reduction, which was denied by Judge Stephen Six.

The man is charged with raping the woman April 2 at a party.
