Lecompton project may get exemption

Douglas County Commission agenda highlights ¢ 8:30 p.m. Monday ¢ County Courthouse, 1100 Mass. ¢ Sunflower Broadband Channel 25 ¢ Meeting documents online at www.lawrenceks.org

Bottom line

Commissioners will consider waiving the county’s purchasing policy requirements to hire Topeka-based Finney & Turnipseed to provide engineering services for the Lecompton Bridge project.

Background

Douglas and Jefferson county commissioners intend to replace the roadway of the Lecompton Bridge over the Kansas River in what could be a $4 million project.

Finney & Turnipseed designed the existing Lecompton Bridge, which was constructed in 1970, and have conducted other inspections on the bridge, according to Keith Browning, county public works director and county engineer.

Construction plans for the project are to be completed in 2006 with construction scheduled to begin in 2007.
