Now playing at AMC: relief for Katrina

AMC Entertainment Inc., the nation’s second-largest theater chain, said it would to donate all ticket and concession sales at its theaters today to the American Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief.

The company, based in Kansas City, Mo., operates 207 theaters in the United States, comprising more than 3,100 screens. The closest AMC complex to Lawrence is in Olathe.

AMC itself was a Katrina victim with five theaters in the New Orleans area, making up 68 screens. The company said two of the five had reopened with limited schedules while the others remain closed.
