KU student wins composing award

Dan Forrest, a Kansas University music and dance graduate student, recently won the prestigious Raymond M. Brock Memorial Student Composition Contest sponsored by the American Choral Directors Assn.

The contest was established by the Raymond M. Brock Memorial Student Composition Fund in 1999. The intention of the contest is to encourage young composers and reward student composers under age 28 for their excellence in choral composition. Forrest won with his composition “Selah,” a piece from his doctoral recital.

“Selah” will be premiered by the KU Chamber Choir at the School of Fine Arts’ sixth annual Collage Concert. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Lied Center. Tickets are $12 for the general public and $7 for students and seniors. Call 864-2787.
