Lawrence Police cited a 22-year-old Lawrence man for cruelty to animals earlier this month after he allegedly threw a pet rabbit off a balcony while at a party at Hawks Pointe apartments in the 1400 block of West Seventh Street.

Detective David Anderson, a police spokesman, said the incident happened while the rabbit's owner, a 19-year-old Kansas University student, was out of town and her roommates were having a party.
Partygoers found the rabbit on the ground below, wrapped it in a blanket and brought it back inside, but it was found dead in its cage the next morning, Anderson said.
The man was ordered to appear in municipal court.

Killing a bunny is a huge red flag —there is something more sinister going on inside this guy's head.

I wish that the LJW would have printed his name. This sub-human needs to be ridiculed publically.

cherubs - I doubt that you will understand but it is truly a sick individual who would harm defenseless animals. As BrianR points out, it is a red flag and this behavior is likely to escalate to harming people. I don't belong to PETA, I am not a vegetarian and I have hunted wild animals for food. But I would never, ever harm an animal for “fun”. Those people that do this kind of thing don't care much for animals OR humans.

What in the world was this guy trying to prove. I hope that irony stikes this disgusting excuse of a human and he falls off of a building or something. Cruely to animals is a serious crime, I agree with BrianR. Something is not right with people who do this sort of thing. And for those who say its just a rabbit why should we care? What will you say when this guy finally upgrades to killing people? Oh its just another person why should we care?

cherubs moves back to LA—
pretty conservative there. No trees to hug–the pollution killed all of them off.
And cherubs, if you're thanking God, He's gonna have a bone to pick with you.

So I walk with a crutch. You don't need one in order to behave compassionately and ethically. So what are you going to do? Kick my crutch out from under me? Is that compassionate or ethical?

I think this has to be the first time that a rabbit thrown out of a balcony has inspired a faith-based conversation. I'm just saying.

This incident illustrates the weakness in Kansas law: we have no felony animal cruelty charge.
this should have qualified!
when you harm an animal this way, you harm the people who live with it and appreciate it.
often people who commit animal cruelty go on to acts of human cruelty.
remember Cherubs, said he/she used to cook for the sigma NU boys, and they were wonderful…hmmm. go figger.
