Camilla’s son weds fashion journalist

Rotherfield Greys, England – Five months after his mother, Camilla, married Prince Charles, food writer Tom Parker Bowles wed fashion journalist Sara Buys on Saturday in an English country church ablaze with flowers.

Charles and Camilla, now Duchess of Cornwall, and Princes William and Harry attended the ceremony at St. Nicholas’ Church in Rotherfield Greys, 40 miles west of London.

Parker Bowles, 31, who is also Charles’ godson, served as a witness at his mother’s wedding to Charles on April 9.

The groom’s father, Andrew Parker Bowles, whose marriage to Camilla ended in divorce in 1995, arrived with his new wife, Rosemary. They were among about 180 church guests.

Details about the reception were kept secret, but news leaked that about 400 guests were invited and the cake was a six-tiered affair covered in Swiss white chocolate.

Parker Bowles met Buys, a fashion writer for the fashion magazine Harpers & Queen, in 2001. Both attended Oxford University.

Spanish film festival to honor Americans’ achievements

Madrid, Spain – American actors Ben Gazzara and Willem Dafoe will receive lifetime achievement awards at the San Sebastian Film Festival, Spain’s top cinema showcase.

Gazzara, 75, and Dafoe, 50, “have both chosen parts in high-risk films not toeing the line” with typical Hollywood expectations, organizers said Saturday.

The festival starts Thursday and wraps up Sept. 24.

Gazzara’s career has spanned nearly 50 years, and he has worked with such directors as John Cassavetes, Peter Bogdanovich and Lars von Trier. He has appeared in dozens of films, including “Anatomy of a Murder” (1959), “They All Laughed” (1981) and “Happiness” (1998).

Dafoe has worked with directors such as David Lynch, Oliver Stone and Martin Scorsese, and his films include “Platoon” (1986), “The Last Temptation of Christ” (1988) and “The English Patient” (1996).

Kenneth Cole makes Katrina fashion statement

New York – In recent years, designer Kenneth Cole has opened his runway show at New York Fashion Week with a short video featuring an A-list star who pokes fun at fashion while highlighting social causes.

“Every season I take the opportunity to convey a much larger message than just hemlines and trends,” Cole, known for his strong social messages, has said.

The video presented at the Bryant Park tents Friday at the start of Fashion Week showed Whoopi Goldberg being arrested by Fashion Victim Unit police for her many fashion infractions.

Goldberg argues that other things such as relief for Hurricane Katrina victims are more important than the latest styles.

Cole took his bows after the presentation of his spring 2006 collection wearing an American Red Cross T-shirt with “800-HELP-NOW” on the back of the shirt.

Ang Lee’s ‘Brokeback Mountain’ wins Golden Lion

Venice, Italy – Ang Lee’s tale of the homosexual love between two cowboys set in the conservative West of the 1960s won the Venice Film Festival’s top award Saturday.

“Brokeback Mountain,” starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, topped 19 other competitors, including favorite “Good Night, and Good Luck,” George Clooney’s black-and-white movie set in the McCarthy era of the early 1950s.

Receiving the Golden Lion award, Lee described his movie as a “great American love story” that is “unique and so universal.”

“I’m so glad it’s prevailed here and was received so warmly here,” he said.

Based on a novella by “The Shipping News” author E. Annie Proulx, the movie has sweeping vistas, lonesome men, bucking broncos and smoldering campfires. It also has sex scenes between two men whose lives are changed, disturbed and entwined after being hired to tend sheep for a summer in Wyoming.

Prince says he feels child’s mother tricked him

New York – Monaco’s Prince Albert II believes he was “set up” by a former flight attendant who says she had his child.

“It was a very difficult moment for me,” Albert, 47, told The New York Times in Saturday’s editions. He added that he’s still “coming to terms” with the unintended fatherhood.

When asked if he believed he was tricked into having a child, Albert replied: “Yes, I think I was set up.”

Albert, who acknowledged paternity in July, told the Times that he had seen the child, Alexandre, only once since the story became public “because of his mother’s attitude toward me.”

“It’s not a very pleasant situation,” he said. “My only concern now is the well-being of the kid.”

Albert also said there’s no chance Alexandre would become prince.

“He is not a possible successor,” he said, citing Monaco’s Constitution, which requires that the parents of heirs to the throne be married.

Movie star settles into role as TV’s ‘Earl’

Beverly Hills, Calif. – Just like his character on his new NBC comedy, “My Name Is Earl,” Jason Lee says he tries to do good things in real life.

“Good things happen when you keep yourself open like that, definitely,” Lee told reporters recently.

Lee, whose screen credits include “Almost Famous” and “Chasing Amy,” said he hadn’t considered doing a TV series until now.
