Weapons, crack found

October 30, 2005

— Police officers executing a search warrant found a cache of weapons and drugs - including two or three one-gallon plastic bags partially filled with crack cocaine.

The search yielded 500 grams of crack cocaine, 3 pounds of marijuana and 78 Ecstasy pills.

"That is in fact a bunch of crack cocaine," said Maj. Patrick Kitchens, deputy police chief. "There is nobody around here who has seen that quantity of crack for many, many years - if at all."

Kitchens said it was a good thing no one was home when officers executed the search warrant Thursday night. He said officers found two hand grenades, several bulletproof vests, handguns, shotguns, rifles and ammunition stashed throughout the house so suspects could easily get to them.

No arrests were immediately made, but police said they knew the identities of the suspects. Police expected to present the evidence to prosecutors this week.
