Quartet to premiere work by Gabriela Frank

The Kronos Quartet will perform a new work by composer Gabriela Frank on Nov. 5 at Kansas University.

Frank’s compositions incorporate South American mythology, art, poetry and folk music into western classical forms that reflect her Peruvian-Jewish heritage.

The quartet, which consists of David Harrington, violin, John Sherba, violin, Hank Dutt, viola, and Jeffrey Zeigler, cello, has premiered more than 450 new pieces that have been written or arranged for the group. It has an extensive list of awards and nominations from throughout its career, including a 2003 Grammy Award for best chamber music performance.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center, and tickets are on sale at the Lied Center Ticket Office, 864-2787.
