Slim odds don’t deter Powerball players
New York ? The odds of winning it all are one in 146,107,962, according to the Multi-State Lottery Assn., but with a record $340 million jackpot at stake in today’s Powerball lottery, people aren’t letting slim chances keep them from buying up tickets.
The game has gone 20 drawings since somebody won the last jackpot in August, matching the five numbers and getting the correct Powerball number. The jackpot has already topped the Powerball record $314.9 million a West Virginia man won Christmas Day three years ago.
Powerball is played in 27 states; Washington, D.C.; and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The biggest lottery jackpot in U.S. history is $363 million, won in The Big Game by two ticket holders in Illinois and Michigan in 2000.
