Electrical problem seen as cause of Sunday fire
An electrical problem with a florescent light ballast caused a fire Sunday in a downtown Lawrence building, according to Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical.
The light ballast was in a hallway of the two-story, red brick building at the southwest corner of Eighth and Vermont streets, across the street from the fire department’s Station No. 1.
Damage to the building was estimated at about $30,000, Fire & Medical interim Chief Mark Bradford said.
